Ticks – Eck! Essential Oils can Help!

In Aromatherapy, Natural Healing by Debra Reis

The spring season brings certain outdoor hazards such as ticks. Some warn that ticks and other critter hazards may be on the increase this season due to the early warm weather and a warm winter.

I recently woke up one morning and thought I had an infected eyelash. My husband looked closer and pulled off a tick! Eck, Eww – I was grossed out but then I was concerned about possible after effects from the tick.

I used Thieves waterless hand cleaner on my eyelid twice a day for several days as a cleanser and disinfectant. I used Inner Defense (with Thieves essential oil) twice a day for about 10 days. I plan to stay healthy!

When my dog had a tick, I used Oregano essential oil on the tick and it did come out and she did not have any side effects. However, I did not want to use Oregano on or near my eye (and do not suggest this for anyone!!). I recently read where a nurse is using liquid dishsoap on a cottonball over the tick which causes the tick to come out and stick to cotton ball. This seems much better than pulling the tick out and possibly causing more harm.

Wishing you a happy and healthy summer!
